Static vs Dynamic QR Codes
Every QR code is technically the same pattern. The difference is what the encoded data points at — your final destination, or a redirect service that can be repointed later.
Static codes
A static code contains the destination itself. It needs no service in the middle, keeps working indefinitely, and cannot be switched off by a third party. The trade-off: the destination is fixed once printed, and the provider cannot report scan counts. QR For Me generates static codes.
Dynamic codes
A dynamic code contains a short redirect URL owned by a provider. That lets the provider change the destination later and count scans — but the code stops working if the account lapses or the provider disappears, and it is normally a paid subscription.
Getting the best of both
Point a static code at a URL on your own domain, then control the redirect yourself. You keep editability and your own analytics with no recurring subscription and no dependence on someone else's service staying online.
Which to choose
- Permanent destination, print run, packaging — static
- Campaign that may be repointed, managed in-house — static plus your own redirect
- You need per-scan analytics from a vendor dashboard — dynamic
